Autumn Art Fest this Saturday

Autumn Art Fest Artists Sept 23, 2017

I’m excited to be in this show.  I’ll be there with originals, prints, cards , ornaments, and magnets on the patio.  Please stop by and say hello!

Here’s one of my latest paintings that I will have available as an original and in matted prints. I’m calling it “Feel the Glow”.

It’s magnetic!

I started playing with a new idea to make magnets from details of  prints of my paintings. I think these starter ones turned out cool. I have more glued and weighted drying, to cut and make tomorrow. I won’t have a lot of stock, but I am going to give them a try at the festival this weekend. What do you think?
(And yes, that photo is me in my 20s with my glorious morning glories in my garden in New York. ).

Getting Ready for an Art Fair

queen of peace setup (2)

This is my second year having a booth to sell my originals, prints and cards at art fairs.  I did two last year and will do four this fall.  The first is this weekend:  The Franciscan Festival of Fine Art at Holy Cross retreat center in Mesilla Park, NM.  I just got new business cards and the county license for selling today.  The countdown continues!

Here’s the set up at my first fair last year right after I got it all set up.  The fair was in prime shopping time before the holidays at Queen of Peace Holiday Bazaar.  I’ll be doing that fair again this year but will be in the main hall rather than in one of the smaller rooms.

There’s a lot of work behind the scenes to get there, and that’s what I’ve been doing the last several weeks. I thought I’d blog about this process for a bit because there’s a lot to explain.   There’s resizing photos and choosing ones to print, getting cards designed and ordered early so they arrive in the mail in time, having photos printed locally, ordering ma tboard and then cutting, cutting, cutting, followed by bagging and tagging. I have muscles in my right arm that I don’t believe have ever been used before!!

So here are photos of the cards as they came in the mail before being folded, bagged, and priced.  You can click on any of them to view it larger in a slideshow.

I’ve ordered more bags for my 8″ x 10″ prints and I’m crossing my fingers that they aren’t coming from the Houston area or they won’t arrive in time.  Here’s a shout out to my friends in Houston hoping they continue to stay dry and safe.

If you’re local and can stop by the Franciscan Festival this weekend, I’m in room 5 and would love to see you!

Four Fall Art Fairs

Postcard Franciscan Festival 2017

Hello all — Before time keeps flying by, I wanted to tell you the four events this fall where I’ll be selling my artwork, prints and cards.

I’m pleased to announce that I’ve been juried into the long-running Fransiscan Festival of Fine Arts located in Mesilla Park, just outside Las Cruces, over the Saturday/Sunday of Labor Day weekend.  I’ll be indoors in room 5 with fellow watercolorist Dorian Clouser. The hours are Saturday, Sept 2nd 9am – 5 pm and Sunday, September 3rd from 10 am – 4 pm.  Hope to see you there!

AutumnArtFest 2cols final

On Saturday, September 23rd we will inaugurate a BRAND NEW venue for art shopping.  The show originated after the Sunland Art Gallery closed and several of the members were looking for other venues to sell their work. Rachel Davis, a beaded cross artist, had always wanted to have a show at her home in the Upper Valley, which has a large, beautiful, shaded yard perfect for an art show.  So the Autumn Art Fest was born!

I will be on the covered patio with print, cards, and originals for sale and would love to have you stop by!  The hours are 10 am – 5 pm.

On Saturday, October 14th, I will be at the Western Hills United Methodist Church Fall Bazaar, 524 Thunderbird, El Paso,  which is a long running fun arts event.  The hours are 9 am – 4 pm.

On November 18-19th, I will have a booth at Queen of Peace’s Annual Bazaar, 1551 Belvidere Street, El Paso.  Saturday November 18th:  9 am – 7 pm.  Sunday November 19th: 9 am – 3 pm.

Selling locally AND online

Basket of Christmas Ornaments available at the Sunland Art Gallery, online, and at local shows

I’ve been quiet lately on my blog, but still painting and doing the business behind the scenes of getting ready to sell at several holiday fairs this season and to open my online shop!  You can see a sampling of what is available on the Online store page at the top of the menu or by going directly to my store at Rachel Murphree Watercolors.

I will be at two fairs this season:

  • November 12-13 at Queen of Peace Bazaar, 1551 Belvidere on El Paso’s Westside :  Saturday  from 9-7 and Sunday from 9-3.
  • December 3 at Bethany Christian Church, 10453 Springwood on El Paso’s Eastside from 9-3.

My online shop has some inventory available and will be growing steadily over the weekend.  I have to get this all done before taking a three day watercolor workshop starting Sunday!

Just in time for the holiday season: ornaments from mini prints of my paintings.  They are about 2.5″ x 4″ and are mounted on a square of mat board with a pretty ribbon for hanging.  You can see some of the ornaments close up here:
