Paradise again. 30 in 30 day 11

Today’s painting of red bird of paradise flowers started before with a first wash of colors mingling.

This is the first wash done a week or so ago. I haven’t. Decided yet if I like all of the changes…what do you think?

      • I’m on the westside too. The orange jubilees and the yellow bells are a different plant. These are known botanically as “caesalpinia pulcherrima” and they aren’t native but do really well here, especially with a little bit of water. There are yellow bird of paradise that bloom a bit earlier in the year and look leggier, but are still a shrub. They are called “Caesalpinia gilliesii”. If you are interested in the local plants, the chihuahuan desert garden at utep is phenomenal, as is the keystone botanical garden on doniphan on the westside.

  1. Thank you for the detailed information. Yes, we have seen these shrubs. Thanks for the names of these plants. We will definitely stop by the chihuahuan desert garden at UTEP! Our son (four years) went to the chihuahuan desert garden from his daycare but we never went there.
